Clutch Bearings are favored in applications that require over-running, indexing, and backstopping The clutch bearing is similar to a roller bearing, but instead of allowing the elements to roll freely in both directions, the rolling elements lock when rolled in the opposite direction. The clutch consists of a series of cam-shaped steel wedges.
Types of Clutch Bearings
1.Roller Type One Way Clutch Bearings Roller type one way clutch bearing is supported and self-contained in a cast iron housing. The Standard lubrication is with oil. This type of bearings is designed for dual or standby drives that require high power at high speeds such as industrial fans, pumps, and turbines. The housing provides a cooling surface, a large oil volume, and maximum safety for equipment running continuously without any supervision. Units of this type must be connected with the driver and driven machine using flexible couplings. Integrated forced lubrication allows hydrodynamic contact-free operation during overrunning. The oil has to be continuously filtered through internal strainers.
2.Roller Type Backstopping Clutch Bearings It is specifically designed to be mounted on the drive pulley shaft of large inclined conveyors. The unit is a symmetrical one and can be mounted for desired free shaft rotation. The torque arm is a single “I“ beam section that is attached to the backstop with two precision ground torque arm pins. The preferred position is horizontal to reduce the bearing load for a longer bearing life. The clutch elements and ball bearings are continuously self-lubricated in a sealed oil chamber.
